The recent onslaught of economic and political uncertainty is raising the stakes for cities and regions worldwide.
Even if tariffs went to zero tomorrow, enough shocks have been introduced into financial markets and nations’ political calculus to redraw the global map of trade alliances and fundamentally alter economic strategies.
The issue for cities and regions everywhere is that the scale of the economic shock is beyond influence, creating risks and opening vulnerabilities requiring immediate attention.
Fortunately, local leaders are maneuvering to build greater create economic resilience, of which an increasing part is the local innovation ecosystem.
I’ve lucky enough to spend my time speaking with local leaders about innovation ecosystems. Without question, inventiveness and ingenuity evolves everywhere, adapted to local conditions and offering hope to not only survive but thrive under challenging conditions.
With innovative new ideas and strategies emerging all the time, many of which can be readily adapted by other places, there are opportunities to help make one another’s economies more resilient. And the stronger we are, the more business and opportunity there is no matter where you are on the map.
